About the bay

Whitsand Bay, runs from Rame Head in the east to Portwrinkle in the west. It is characterised by sheer, high cliffs,(access to the beach is steep), dramatic scenery and long stretches of sandy beaches.

At the western end there’s a Ministry of Defence firing range at Fort Tregantle, when the red flag is flying this area is closed for firing range operations. At the eastern end another napoleonic fort Polhawn Battery is now a wedding venue with stunning views across the bay http://www.polhawnfort.com/setting.php

The bay does not have any toilet facilities although the cafe at Tregonhawke beach provides one which is the stretch where most people tend to settle.

lifeguard services operate between May and September and it’s a popular surfing spot.

The South West Coast Path runs the length of the bay.
